Matt Hobbs grew up in Berkshire, Aberdeenshire and the Scottish borders working in restaurants as a teenager. At the age of 18, he moved to London working at the legendary Ivy restaurant under Chris Corbin and Jeremy King. Seven years later in 2002 he was hired by Nick Jones to set up the first International Soho House in New York. Matt married and started his family in New York, returning to London in September 2005. Later that month, he was hired to take on the derelict Scott’s restaurant on Mount Street, Mayfair to return it to its former glory. By early 2007 Scott’s had established itself as one of the most sought-after tables in London. Matt went on to oversee the Birley Clubs as well as all the restaurants in the Caprice Holdings stable: Scott’s, The Ivy, Le Caprice, J-Sheekey, Daphne's, Annabel's, Harry's Bar, George, Mark’s Club and Bath and Racquets. In 2009 Matt returned to New York to launch Le Caprice at the iconic Pierre Hotel on the upper East side.
In 2010 the historic but ailing Groucho Club needed a new CEO and Matt took on the challenge to lead a renaissance on Dean Street. In 2015, Hobbs led a MBO and became an owner of this institution. Matt exited after eight years in 2018 and moved to Warwickshire.
